Velero

Velero is an open-source tool to safely back up and restore, perform disaster recovery, and migrate Kubernetes cluster resources and persistent volumes. Velero can run with a cloud provider or on-premises.

You can schedule Chef 360 Platform backups using Velero. Chef 360 Platform uses Velero annotations and backup hooks to integrate with the add-on. When installing into an existing cluster, if Velero isn’t present Chef 360 Platform still operates, however backup and restore is the customer’s responsibility.

Note

Velero is considered an add-on, but it can’t be disabled when using the implicit cluster.

Velero consists of:

A server that runs on your cluster
A command-line client that runs locally
