Frequently asked questions
General
What’s a notification?
A notification is a message sent to inform a user or system that something important has occurred. Notifications can be delivered through several provider types, for example, Email or SMS.
Why am I receiving this notification?
You are receiving a notification because:
- You are subscribed to a related topic.
- Your communication preferences are configured to receive it and the topic was enabled at the time the notification was sent.
Some notifications are optional and user-controlled, while others may be required and always delivered.
Can I stop receiving notifications?
- Yes. You can disable individual notifications or apply rules and filters to limit when and which notifications are delivered.
- Yes. You can unsubscribe from topics and notices unless subscriptions to those items are required (that is, force subscribed).
- Yes. You can modify your communication preferences if you no longer want to receive any notifications.
Some system-required notifications may not be fully disabled.
Why do notifications sometimes arrive later than expected?
Notifications may be delayed due to:
- Temporary delivery issues with a channel or provider.
- The number of retries after an initial delivery failure.
End user
Do I need to create subscriptions?
There are no predefined subscriptions. You only enable or disable them based on your preferences.
Do I need to understand topics and notifications?
Topics represent scenarios you want to be notified about. Notifications are the messages sent from the product to the recipients about those scenarios.
Why am I not receiving notifications?
Common reasons include:
- No channel is active or verified.
- The topic is disabled.
- A rule is preventing delivery.
- A filter is configured incorrectly.
- User preferences aren’t configured correctly.
Can I receive different notifications through different channels?
Yes. You can create multiple channels and configure rules or schedules so that different notifications use different delivery methods.
What happens if I disable a channel?
Notifications won’t be delivered through that channel, but the channel configuration is saved and can be re-enabled later.
Administrator
Why can’t users see a subscription?
The topic is likely disabled.
What happens if I disable a provider?
Disabling a provider immediately stops delivery through that provider. Notifications aren’t delivered until the provider is re-enabled or an alternative provider is used. If an email or SMS provider is disabled, the system will attempt to fall back to another provider of the same service type.
Do I need to recreate notifications when providers change?
No. Notifications are independent of providers. As long as a compatible provider is available, notifications continue to work.
Troubleshooting
Why did I receive multiple notifications for the same situation?
This may occur if:
- Multiple topics are enabled for similar conditions.
- Retries resulted in duplicate deliveries.
- Multiple channels are enabled.
What should I do if delivery tests fail?
Administrators should:
- Review provider configuration.
- Verify credentials and connectivity.
- Re-test after making changes.
End users should report the issue if they can’t resolve it themselves.
